If you wear eyeglasses, whether it’s designer eyewear or traditional frames, it's important to keep an eye out for signs that indicate they may need repairing or adjustment. Whether it's a prescription change or some work to improve comfort, eyeglass repair and replacement services keep your visual aid at its best and most effective.

At GW Eye Associates, serving La Jolla, Carmel Valley, and other areas of San Diego, CA, we discuss the signs that your glasses need repair or replacement.

Changes in Prescriptions

Headaches, eye strain, or squinting when trying to view near or far distances are key signs that your vision prescription has changed. We offer comprehensive eye care and recommend that you schedule an eye exam with our team to have your vision checked. If your prescription has changed, our in-office lab can replace your lenses.

Scratches on the Lenses

If you don’t protect your eyeglasses in a soft and sturdy case, place them lens-side down, or accidentally drop your glasses, you could end up with scratches on the lenses. This makes it difficult to see clearly no matter how much you try to buff the scratches out. We can replace your lenses to address this issue.

Crooked Frames

Crooked frames are a common problem caused by glasses that are accidentally damaged, or when screws, hinges, or nose pads need adjustment. We can identify the problem and fix your frames so they feel more comfortable.

Loose, Missing, or Damaged Screws or Hinges

There are hinges, or hardware, that connect the temples to the frame. If these break or become loose, your glasses can feel unstable. In addition, if the screws that hold your glasses together become loose, they must be tightened to prevent the glasses from falling apart.

Slipping

Slippage of your eyeglasses can be the result of nose pads that are damaged or no longer sit comfortably on your nose. In other cases, the arms may need tightening or adjusting to provide a better fit. We can take a look at your glasses to determine how we can improve their fit.

Bent Frames

Bent frames are another common problem that are often associated with an accident such as dropping your glasses or accidentally sitting or stepping on them. It can also be caused by not using a protective case. If the frames are bent or cracked, we can determine if they can be repaired or need replacement.

Repair vs. Replacement

To determine if your glasses need repair or replacement, we will need you to come into our optical shop to have your glasses evaluated by a member of our team.

Whenever possible, we will try to make the appropriate repairs. If this is not possible, we have a wide selection of designer frames for you to choose from.
