“Dr. Wong is amazing.”

“Dr Wong and team is amazing and offer great explanation to my eye prescription and problems. I got my lenses from here and Dr Wong worked with me to figure out the best lens after multiple round of trials and patiently finding the right fit. They even worked me to get replacement lens for my specs as it got scratches ( informed they r under warranty). Also their dog Chloe is the best!!!!!”

How Do Eyeglasses Work?

Glasses can correct refractive errors, which are vision problems that occur because your eye does not correctly focus light on the retina. The retina sits near the back of your eye and transforms the light into visual information that’s sent to your brain. When light isn’t correctly redirected to this part of the eye, it often results in blurry vision and other visual impairments. Prescription glasses help redirect the light into your retinas for clearer vision. Our doctors can determine whether you need glasses during an eye exam at our La Jolla or Del Mar, CA, offices

Consultation

During a consultation, we encourage our La Jolla, Carmel Valley, and San Diego patients to discuss any questions or concerns with our doctors, no matter how trivial they may seem. Small visual concerns can indicate larger health problems where early treatment is essential.

Eye Exam

At your appointment, we’ll perform a series of tests to get a clear view of your overall eye health and look for any underlying issues. While other eye doctors need to dilate your pupils to view your retinas clearly, we use state-of-the-art technology to take photos of your eyes without making them sensitive to light.

Checking Your Vision

During the eye exam, our doctors will ask you to read letters from a chart to determine how well you can see different-sized objects at a distance. If you have trouble reading the large or medium-sized lines, you need glasses or another form of visual aid. In that case, our doctor will have you look through a combination of lenses and try to read the same lines until you can see clearly.

Selecting Eyeglasses

If you need glasses or an updated prescription, our staff can help you choose the frame and lens options for a new pair of glasses. In some cases, we may be able to fit new lenses into your current frames if they are in good condition.

Crafting Your Eyewear

Once you’ve selected your frames and lens options, we can go ahead and start creating your lenses on-site with our advanced technology. Our in-office lab allows us to craft your glasses on the same day, though some special orders may require additional time.

Make Adjustments

When you receive your new eyeglasses in La Jolla, CA, you can try them on to see whether we need to make any adjustments to your prescription or the frames. We will ensure your glasses feel comfortable and provide you with excellent vision.

Glasses vs. Contact Lenses

Eyeglasses and contact lenses are both effective treatments for common vision problems, and many patients use both to give them flexibility. Our eye doctors serving La Jolla, Carmel Valley, and all of San Diego can help you figure out whether glasses, contacts, or both solutions are best for your unique lifestyle during an eye exam.

Choosing the Right Eyeglasses

Our friendly La Jolla and Del Mar staff can help you find the right frames and lens options to suit your needs and tastes. While we can recommend certain frames or options, the choice is ultimately yours: choose what feels comfortable and looks right to you.

  • Frame Material

Patients should look at the type of frame first, since this choice largely impacts every other aspect of choosing a pair of glasses. Full-rimmed frames have the largest variety of colors and patterns available, while rimless frames often feature adjustable nose pieces for a more comfortable fit, and semi-rimless glasses strike a balance between the two.

  • Lens Shape

Your frames determine the size and shape of your lenses, which in turn affect your visual field and how the glasses look when you are wearing them. Frames are designed with certain face shapes in mind; for example, those with a heart-shaped face may want to consider frames with square, oval, and rounded oval shapes.

  • Comfort

Several factors play into the comfort of your glasses, including their weight, nose piece, temple length, and the size of the lenses. Pay attention to how the pair of glasses feels on your nose and on top of your ears. Our staff can measure the dimensions of your temple and other facial features to help you find a comfortable choice.

  • Color and Style

Some frame types show off colors and patterns a lot more prominently than others, with full-rimmed glasses offering the most surface area to display your choice. Choose a bright color that pops to help you stand out or go for a more neutral color that can seamlessly fit into almost any wardrobe style.

“Exceptional service.”

“I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional service I received at your store recently. I visited your store with a loose Lindberg frame, and I was truly impressed by the level of assistance and care I received. Your staff went above and beyond to fix my frame, and what's even more remarkable is that they did it without charging me anything.”
