A Focus on Treating Refractive Errors
Refractive errors are the most common type of vision problem and among the most easily addressed. Depending on the type and degree of refractive error, your options may include glasses, contact lenses, and laser surgery.
Nearsightedness
Myopia, also known as nearsighted vision, causes light to focus at a point in front of, rather than directly on, the retina. Patients with myopia can see close objects clearly but have trouble seeing objects far away.Farsightedness
Hyperopia, otherwise known as farsighted vision, results when light focuses at a point behind the retina. Patients with hyperopia can usually focus on objects far away, but close objects appear blurry.Astigmatism
Astigmatism is a refractive error caused by an irregularity in the shape of the cornea. Astigmatism usually makes it difficult to distinguish details, regardless of their distance from the eye.Presbyopia
Known as age-related farsightedness, presbyopia is a condition that typically develops in persons over the age of 40 and is caused by a decrease in the flexibility of the eye's natural lens.Night Vision
Some patients experience worse eyesight in low lighting. Our optometrists can fit you with a pair of commercial or designer eyewear to help clear your night vision.Contacts for All Needs

Expert Management for These Eye Conditions:
Although there is currently no cure for these eye conditions, their progression can be slowed with early detection and prescribed eye care from our San Diego-area optometrists, Dr. Gordon Wong and Dr. Wildon Wong, serving Carmel Valley and nearby communities.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is an eye disease where vision loss occurs at the center of your field of vision. Also known as age-related macular degeneration, this condition is a leading cause of blindness in persons over the age of 65. Age-related macular degeneration results in an inability to see items in the center of the visual field, such as faces, print, and other detailed objects.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy causes vision changes when blood vessels in the retina become damaged. Vessels may swell and leak, or new and abnormal blood vessels may begin to grow and eventually rupture, damaging the retina. Over time, the condition can progress to cause vision loss or even blindness.
Glaucoma
Marked by damage to the optic nerve resulting from high intraocular pressure, glaucoma is a progressive and irreversible eye disease caused by a blockage in the eye's drainage system. Early detection of glaucoma is crucial to the effective management of the disease. Early warning signs are hard to notice, making routine screenings essential to diagnosing glaucoma early.

Other Eye Conditions Our San Diego–Area Optometrists Treat
With proper eye care, many eye conditions can be effectively treated. Our La Jolla practice can treat a range of eye conditions, including:
Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens that typically occurs with age. Although corrective lenses may be helpful during the early stages of cataract development, the only method of treating cataracts is to remove the natural lens and replace it with an artificial one.
Retinal Detachment
If you suspect you have retinal detachment, our eye doctors can perform a vitrectomy, scleral buckle surgery, or another treatment to preserve your eyesight. Prompt treatment is necessary to preserve your vision.Dry Eye Syndrome
If you rely on over-the-counter eye drops to manage your dry eyes, come into our office for a dry eye consultation. Our eye doctors can inform you of treatment options to manage your dry eyes long-term.Notice Eye Inflammation or Infection?
Don't Wait to Contact an Eye Doctor
When part of the eye becomes inflamed, the potential effects can range from severe irritation to potential vision loss, depending on the specific cause.
While eye conditions like blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid) and conjunctivitis (pink eye) are relatively minor and easily treated, a condition known as uveitis (inflammation of the uvea or middle layer of the eye) can be severe and should be assessed by an eye specialist as soon as possible.
Whether you have a stubborn case of conjunctivitis or an infection that poses a more significant threat, call our office for a prompt appointment to assess your condition.
Top Eye Care for Kids: We Can Treat Developmental Irregularities
Developmental irregularities must be addressed early to prevent permanent complications. Pediatric eye exams are essential because children often can't or won't communicate the problems they're experiencing with their vision. If detected early, the following conditions are generally treatable through corrective therapy.

Strabismus
We use many methods to diagnose crossed eyes, known medically as strabismus. Vision correction therapy, glasses, and even surgery may be recommended. Our optometrists may perform a visual acuity test, retina exam, depth perception test, and other methods to accurately diagnose strabismus.

Amblyopia
Another developmental eye irregularity is amblyopia. Amblyopia is the leading cause of vision loss in children, making diagnosis essential to treating the condition. Treatment can vary from wearing an eye patch to using corrective therapy techniques. Our optometrist may perform an eye reflex test and a visual acuity test.
“Dr Wong and team is amazing and offer great explanation to my eye prescription and problems. I got my lenses from here and Dr Wong worked with me to figure out the best lens after multiple round of trials and patiently finding the right fit.”
