Our Optometrists Are Dedicated To Helping You See Your Best

Exceptional care is our top priority. Unlike some optometrists who rush patients through their visit and out the door, Dr. Gordon Wong and Dr. Wildon Wong take the time to ensure each patient receives high-quality eye care that will help them see their best.

During a thorough eye exam, our optometrists will take measurements of both eyes to determine the proper diameter, curvature, and degree of correction you need in your lenses. If you have astigmatism or a changing prescription, you'll learn exactly what that means for your sight and your lenses. They will then explain your contact lens options in detail, reviewing the comfort, cost, and other considerations of each type so that you can choose the best fit for your needs.

With optometry offices in La Jolla and Del Mar, a higher level of care is close no matter where you are in Greater San Diego. To schedule your visit, contact us online or call:

“Dr. Wong was awesome!”

“First optometrist to ever explain my astigmatism to me and also the first to give me a different contact lens for each eye. I thought I used to see well with my last set but when he put the new contacts in my eyes I could see tremendously better! He also explained to me my options for contact lenses with details about my eye comfort and didn't leave out any information about the difference in cost etc. Its refreshing to have a doctor who seemed to really care.”

Contacts & Insurance Coverage

GW Eye Associates accepts insurance like VSP, EyeMed, United Healthcare, Signa, and Blue Cross. We also accept CareCredit® financing. Helping La Jolla, Carmel Valley, and other San Diego communities access eye care is important to us; we're always happy to check your vision benefits or explain your financing options.

Contact Lenses Offer Clear Advantages

Your prescription lenses can open up a whole new world of possibilities like:

Promoting
Unlimited Vision

With eyeglasses, your field of vision is limited to your lenses, so many eyeglass wearers experience poor peripheral vision. Contact lenses provide a full, uninterrupted range of vision.

Providing
Everyday Flexibility

From swimming, to playing sports, there are some places where glasses bring more disadvantages than advantages. A pair of contact lenses can add everyday flexibility, without making you worry about damaging your corrective eyewear.

Preserving
Personal Style

Maybe a pair of glasses doesn't fit your wardrobe! Or, you just prefer how you look without them. Contacts are subtle yet effective, so they don't impact your appearance — but they will help you see how nice you look.

Contacts and Glasses Make the Perfect Pair

Many contact lens patients find themselves reaching for their glasses when they first wake up or at the end of an extra-long day. Even if you don't, you might still need a pair: from a contagious disease like pink eye to a corneal scratch, your optometrist may advise that you switch to glasses in certain situations.

Fortunately, we have a wide variety of glasses to choose from — and we can add your prescription lenses on site the same day.

Not sure where to start? Need help deciding? GW Eye Associates can provide eye exams, contacts, and glasses. Our offices in La Jolla and Del Mar are convenient to Carmel Valley and much of San Diego. Just contact us or call:

Dr Wong and team is amazing and offer great explanation to my eye prescription and problems. I got my lenses from here and Dr Wong worked with me to figure out the best lens after multiple round of trials and patiently finding the right fit. They even worked me to get replacement lens for my specs as it got scratches ( informed they r under warranty). Also their dog Chloe is the best!!!!!

It was my first time here and I had an amazing experience. The staff was extremely kind and patient staying over an hour after to help me get the right lenses/frames/contact combo. I’m an engineer and love to understand most things. Dr.Wong comes across as smart, competent, and willing to talk through different questions and curiosities. Overall seemed like a really cool person. I’ll definitely be back and recommend them if you’re looking for a new optometrist.

What to Expect At Your Eye Exam and Fitting

Our patients can truly see the difference after their appointment at GW Eye Associates.
Our patients can truly see the difference after their appointment at GW Eye Associates.

Routine Eye Exam

One of our optometrists will conduct your yearly exam. This will include looking at an eye chart, a glaucoma screening, and a slit lamp examination.

Semi-Regular Pupil Dilation

Typically, you can expect to have your pupils dilated every two years. Advancing technology means that you don't have to deal with the discomfort — or have someone drive you home.

Contact Lens Fitting

During your eye exam, we will fit you with a pair of contacts. That way, we can ensure that they correct your vision properly. You can also pick the most comfortable lens, with options like Acuvue and AirOptix.

Prescription Lens Purchase

From stylish glasses to discreet contacts, we have a wide variety of prescription vision options. We can even fit your glasses prescriptions in-house.

How Can I Tell When I Need a New Prescription?

Sometimes, the months fly by, and we completely forget about going to the optometrist. However, your body may be giving you signs that you need a new glasses or contacts prescription. They include:

  • Squinting
  • Blurry or worsened vision
  • Difficulty seeing in the dark
  • Headaches
  • Double vision
  • Tired eyes

Keep Your Eyes Healthy With the Proper Contact Care

Contacts require a bit more maintenance than glasses. Though it may sound simpler to avoid these steps, don't give in to that urge. Otherwise, you may encounter problems like eye infections or pink eye.

Follow Lens Discarding Guidelines

Some contacts can last a few weeks, while others like DAILIES are intended only for a single day's use. Follow the instructions written on the package of your contact lenses to avoid injury or worsening vision.

Wash Your Hands Thoroughly

Before you even think about putting in your contact lenses, you should wash your hands thoroughly. This will prevent you from spreading germs, or even causing an infection.

Inspect Your Lenses Daily

Sometimes, your lenses may have small tears. They may also have hair or other materials stuck to them. Inspect your lenses before you wear them to avoid tiny scratches on your eyes, and discard them if necessary.

Clean Your Contact Lenses

Each day, you should clean your contact lenses using the same saline solution you store them in. You should place them on a clean palm, and carefully massage in drops of the solution for 15-20 seconds.
